Maggie Phillips hasn’t had it easy. As the wife of retired Navy SEAL, and the adoptive mother of two little hellions, Maggie is constantly looking for ways to improve her family’s financial situation. She accepts a cleaning position for her new neighbors (who redefine the term ‘eccentric’), never imagining she will end up as the sole alibi for a man with a fascination for medieval torture devices when he is brought up on murder charges.
While Maggie struggles to prove the man’s innocence, her deadbeat brother arrives, determined to sell Maggie and Neil on his next great scheme and to mooch with a vengeance. If that isn’t bad enough, her in-laws, (the cut-throat corporate attorneys) descend on the house, armed with disapproval and condemnation, for the family’s annual Thanksgiving celebration.
As the police investigation intensifies, Maggie searches for the killer among the upper echelon of Hudson, Massachusetts in the only way she can— by scrubbing their thrones.
Of the porcelain variety, that is…
A really enjoyable read—laugh out loud funny—one that I’m glad to have had the privilege to review. I look forward to more of Ms. Hart’s work. Excellent!

This is the stupidest character I have ever encountered... honest, I tried to persevere... i tried to be sympathetic when the pushy friend bullied her into becoming a maid to a snotty neighbor, or when she allowed her monster mother-in-law run her Thanksgiving dinner... but when she picked up the wheelbarrow I've had enough... I couldn't stomach it anymore!!!... seriously, do you expect us to believe that someone so spineless could actually handle a murder investigation?... get real!...Product details

Skeletons in the Closet Laundry Hag Series Book 1 edition by Jennifer L Hart Romance eBooks Reviews
Got this book free to see if I would enjoy Ms. Harts writing style and this is my honest voluntary review. A cute innocent housewife with normal money worries and working on ways to earn a little extra income. It turns into a multiple murder mystery with several people she has encountered turning up dead. She and her ex SEAL husband, working as tag team parents, try to keep home life normal while the people around her start dropping like flies. You will never guess who did it and parts of the last couple of chapters are so funny that I gasped and even chuckled out loud. So, yes! I really enjoyed Ms. Harts story and writing style. Pick this book up and enjoy this story too.
Totally unbelievable plot, tries for clever but way off mark. Unlikeable characters, coarse, rude and not too astute. Also, lots of repetition.
About 20 pages into the book I decided that if I had to read that the protagonist's husband was an ex Navy SEAL just one more time, I would scream. Unfortunately, I had to keep reading it over and over after that. The screaming should have commenced but I pushed onward anyway. The author just drives this point in with a sledge hammer. Additionally, as others have stated, the characters could use some back story or fleshing out. They never seemed really real to me. The book is also full of grammatical errors as well. I can't see myself paying for the next installment even though there were a few good lines in there.
The book description sounded fun, but with each chapter I found myself laughing less. Many of the characters/situation were just so ridiculous that I found myself rolling my eyes rather than laughing. The pushy friend who volunteers Maggie for a job, gets her involved in illegal outings, etc. The cleaning sidekicks, starting with a clueless pregnant teen then moving on to a crotchety old man. The schlub brother who uses his sister and of course is involved in the "naked man in the kitchen" scene. Maggie pushing a wheelbarrow nearly three miles to the grocery store. The uber hot hubby (some backstory as to how he & Maggie got together would have made this a bit more believable) who "affectionately" refers to his wife as Uncle Scrooge.
The ending, while not what I was expecting, was disappointing - it felt rushed and (MINOR SPOILERISH ALERT) that character wasn't all that well developed, so I didn't have the satisfactory "a-ha!" moment that comes from understanding the villain's motivation.
The writing itself wasn't terrible (saving the novel from the dreaded 1 or 2 star review) but I definitely won't be joining the laundry hag on any future adventures...
Kept your interest, surprise ending. Good story but f--/ word used too much and turns me off any movie or book that uses it as an everyday word
By 27% I couldn't take anymore. It was just trying to hard to be fun. The main character is a twit, no depth. She talks abt being frugal, then shows she isn't. Lives in a neighborhood they can't afford, drives a vehicle that makes no sense, obviously doesn't really shop at WalMart, has no idea how long it takes to clean wet rooms, so much more that made no sense. Oh, and no proofread it! They have no cook, but the cook is there?
I thought this would be a good read for a lover of mysteries. Life situation and characters were likeable, but language is so unnecessarily vulgar and disrespectful.
